Money In The Bank Part 2: SEX SELLS

SEX SELLS is a phrase we're all no doubt familiar with, I feel personally this phrase can be linked with almost everything in this day and age, be it through TV adverts, we've all seen them, the ones advertising the newest cars on the block featuring the so-called sexy male or female actor or the so-called cute animals that feature in them (come on are we all naive enough to believe that this is relay going to be us ?), example GUCCI

Or the ones advertising the hottest and sexiest new men's and woman's fragrances out (again I've never seen the point in these fragrances adverts-its not like we can smell the bloody things through our TV!).
SEX SELLS can be linked to anything from CLOTHES, TV PROGRAMS, TAKE AWAY MEALS, SPORTS and just about anything else that appears on our TV'S in those annoying five minutes between what ever program or film it is we're  may be watching, the thing I don't get or understand is that these are all products that have been around for the ages, all products we already have or know about surely ?!?.


This is only a little snippet of my feelings regarding SEX SELLS in popular culture (if you wan't to read any more just let me know)

Where my feelings really lie on the subject of SEX SELL'S is in music, this is where it really starts to fuck me off!, it seems that whatever music channel you seem to flick through there it is, SEX SEX SEX, now I don't mean the actual physical act of sex, but the suggestion of sex.
In nearly every video I come across does there seem to be women flaunting it (now I'm aware of the old saying "if you've got it flaunt it") but surely when it comes down to what is supposed to be your talent, and your desire to want to be a singer you can surely rely on your talent, can't you ??
When ever I seem to watch a video these days by the so called hottest new artist's or even established artist's they seem to be dressed in next to nothing!. Or dripping some kind of liquid over themselves rolling around in the sand or in some kind of wrestling match with another women.

Which I also think raises a whole new issue, of which is, these artist's are the role models for our kids! what sort of example are they setting ?? This also applies to male artists as well, with their half naked bodies out, or dripping in fake diamonds (which we all know is loaned by their record company's, come on people its not real!), as well as the cars, and get this the half naked women again, do these Women seriously want to be portrayed like this ??.

And by the way these Women seem to also pop up in their own videos down the road. so have they got there through merit and hard work or through selling themselves ( again we've all heard the expression "sleeping your way to the top").
When it comes to TRUE talent can these artists really say they're the next BIG thing, or the next Legends of our time ??,  Some artists seem to have One-Hit Wonder Careers and then release next to nothing over the span of their career or re-release the same album "RELOADED" with a couple of extra songs, which for some reason we all seem to buy into.
Then you have you artists that release album after album after album, dropping no names "cough (RIHANNA) cough", surely after releasing like five ? straight albums you still cant have anything interesting, relevant or new to talk about can you ??

To be totally honest with you I'm worried, why you ask ?, because when you look at Legendary Artists such as MOTORHEAD, LED ZEPPELIN, IRON MAIDEN, THE BEATLES, STING, ELTON JOHN, MICHAEL JACKSON, MADONNA, JOHNNY CASH, THE ROLLING STONES to name just a few, all these artists have had at least 10,15 even 20 album careers!.
Each having long standing, long lasting impacts within music, still being relevant within their respected music genres, each still selling into today's music market,  each of these artists and more throughout the years having legendary careers,even hall of fame careers.
Can we really and realistically say this about the generation of artists today, have we really got the next ELVIS ? the next MICHAEL JACKSON ? or the next MOTORHEAD ??, to be continued ..........
